Arthur S. Eddington
O autorze
Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington – University of Cambridge professor, was among the most influential scholars of the first half of the twentieth century. He made an enduring contribution to research into the composition of stars, their evolution and dynamic properties. He led a famous expedition to observe the total eclipse of the sun in 1919 which provided experimental proof of Einstein’s theory of relativity. He was called by his contemporaries “the most distinguished astrophysicist of his time” and “the apostle of the Theory of Relativity”. Apart from foundational works on physics and astrophysics, Eddington also wrote several books where he presented the achievements of cosmology and quantum theory in a brilliant and accessible way. Perhaps the most famous of these is The Expanding Universe which has been republished several times and translated into many languages.
